President’s Message: A Club That Cares, A Cause That Counts

Hello wonderful Rotarians!

Isn’t it amazing how much we achieve together? This month alone, our club has clocked up countless volunteer hours, touched lives near and far, and shown what it means to be people of action — and compassion.

October brings a cause close to our hearts: Lift the Lid on Mental Illness. We’re proud to support Australian Rotary Health’s research to break the stigma and find real solutions. Every dollar raised is a step towards hope. We will be hearing more about our involvement with this initiative as the time gets closer.

We will also shine a light on Rotary’s ongoing work addressing domestic violence — a devastating issue that affects so many families. Through local partnerships and support services, we stand with survivors and champion safe, healthy communities.

Thank you for showing up, rolling up your sleeves, and lifting each other higher. Together, we do so much more than we ever could alone.

Keep caring. Keep shining.

President Rosemary

Beanies for Babies: UniSA Students Support Lifesaving Midwifery Work in PNG

🧶✨ Beanies for Babies! ✨🧶

Did you know a simple beanie can help save a life?

UniSA midwifery students (and their crafty families!) are knitting and crocheting beanies for newborns in remote Papua New Guinea — an act of global solidarity sparked by Dr Angela Brown’s work with the Rotary Club of Morialta’s PNG Midwifery Project.

These beanies keep babies warm and encourage mums to attend health clinics, where skilled midwives can help ensure safer births.

“This is our way of showing care beyond the classroom,” says Dr Brown. “It’s small, but it means so much.”

We love seeing our students and community rally behind this beautiful cause! 💙🌍🧶

Rotary PNG Midwifery Leadership Buddy Project
The Project Team at RC Morialta are now engaged in planning for the 6th Leadership workshop to be held in Port Moresby in April 2026, where 14 midwives from PNG and 7 midwives from Australia will buddy for 12 months on a quality project to enhance maternity care in PNG, particularly in rural and remote communities. The Rotary Club of Port Moresby are working closely with the project team to raise funds for this event.

One of the aims of the project is to raise the profile of midwives and midwifery care in PNG.  To advance this aim, on the International Day Of the Midwife (IDM) held every year, members of the PNG Midwives Society (PNGMS) throughout the country organised events to educate the public about their work.

The photos above show the PNGMS providing information at a shopping centre in Port Moresby and midwives in Milne Bay addressing a high school of 1000 students.

Workshop News

News about an attendee

I am Barrie's wife & I am sorry that I haven't replied before, but this year Barrie has been ill with a variety of problems culminating in pancreatic cancer.  He has not been able to attend the shed & I think John Burgess has kept you updated.

Last Friday Barrie left us peacefully with no pain. Mark, our son & I were grateful that we were both there.  The nursing staff were very good to him and to us. He was ready.
Barrie immensely enjoyed his time at the shed and gained strength from the experience.

Our thanks to the organisers for their great efforts.
